Here is a review of My Way gay sauna sent in by a reader today:

I went on a Sunday evening and it was not busy; maybe 8 or 10 people max. Perhaps all the fags had gone back to their families for dinner. I wasn't hopeful of getting any, due to the poor quality of what's left swimming around this vast, dimly lit place.

This is one of the bigger saunas in Hong Kong but being a size queen I was not impressed by how they use it. First impressions count, yes, so they shouldn't put a totally ugly bleached blond skeleton at the counter.

How can I describe this place? A shanty town in a typhoon shelter? A hotchpotch of building materials and funiture from the local refuse collection point? It was so dark I couldn't really see clearly.

Next to a row of lockers is quite a big, dark communal shower area, with the nozzles blowing hot and cold. The entrance hangs heavy clear plastic sheets akin to those used in a freezer but since people come in and out it neither keeps the cold out or keeps the warmth in. The shower area is dark only to be punctuated by time controlled LED disco lights. The steam room is dark and laid with chest height walls - dangerous with their sharp hard edges. At the other end is a small sauna but with a big gap at the bottom of the glass door there is a constant draught that makes this tiny room rather useless: you can't enjoy the heat, and it puts off any potential "action".

The "living room" has a big TV showing local TV and bananas (fruit) are on offer. They try to make this into a reading room with lots of old and well fingered magazines but it is so dark I wonder if they have really thought this through.

Two exits flank the living room leading into the even darker dark rooms. Nothing special there - just rows of rooms with people hanging around and a maze attached at the end of the corridor.

Some rooms have connecting peep holes, one room has a 2 way mirror so unsuspecting fags using that room would be giving a free show.

The patrons that night did not excite me - I do lower my standards considerably at saunas but sometimes you just wonder why bother with just another unidentified uninspiring piece of meat. Again since there were not many people I can only say the guys there were mostly skinny young guys and unremarkable John Does.

Thanks for sharing your pain.  On 2 occaisons when dropping into saunas in this town and gettting royally pissed off, FuelMix demanded and got a free pass for the next time he might come back. You went on a Sunday evening. That would be graveyard in most saunas in this town.  In due course, FuelMix will drop into this joint and report in his inimitable style.

Apparently they advertise Free Entry for Mr Bigs i.e. 7 inches or more. But if the Reception Desk is manned by "an ugly bleached blond skeleton", that rather crimps the prospect of a free entry does it not? Of course, a patron could always shut his eyes and jack off to a porn fantasy, but that seems more trouble than it's worth.

Would it be rude of FuelMix to brag that he has been serviced in this town by sauna staff during their shift when things were quiet?

Gay Saunas in Very Rich Megacity appear to be along the lines of "so many places, so little choice". If any other reader has a comment on this place, feel free to send it in and FuelMix will publish it.

Here is a review of Colony gay sauna sent in by a reader today:

Visited this place on a Sunday afternoon.

Situated in an old walk-up (maybe even listed) building.

Once you paid and get in you are in the big lounge area, with one corner lined with lockers with padlocks. Since it is an old building it has a high ceiling so they built a mezzanine above the lockers for more lockers. The whole changing area is part of the lounge area and here you can kind of see why the are called Colony. The deco has a smidgen of colonial flavour to it - if you lay back, close your eyes, and think of England. It's inoffensive enough. There is also a bar/ service counter where you can get soft drinks, tea and coffee and cream cakes (I assume for eating). The lounge is wrapped by a terrace so while this is an outdoor space it does not benefit from any direct sunlight for the fear of losing its privacy. It also suffers from the constant noise from Ladies Market and heavy traffic.

A corridor leads to the back of the building where the wet area is. A big jacuzzi straddles between the showers and the steam room. Facilities are well maintained, perhaps due to their newness and/or lack of use (?). The high ceiling of the building continues to this part and sitting in the jacuzzi you can look through (albeit through bamboo curtains) to the opposite side of the street; making this sauna a lot less claustrophobic than others.

The other corner of this section is the toilet with a small LCD TV high up on the wall outside - though you will have to watch it (local TV) standing in the corridor. Which is just as well because there were only 3 people around. next is two rows of rooms with the usual facilities with peep boxes. They utilised the height of the room with a bunk area though in the dark it is very easy to walk right into the ladder.

I cannot comment on the clientele as there were only a handful but a few more came in by the time I was ready to go. And the new comers did not give me any incentives to stay.

All and all, it is a clean and pleasant place though it's the quality of customers that matters most to patrons. And in this instance I cannot make any impartial comments due to the very small sampling size.

FuelMix says: Thank you for the feedback.  Kinda suspected it was near the Ladies Market in Mong Kok but was going to reserve comment until viewed personally. Odd location for a sauna and in a (listed) building too.  One can only assume that it's intended to be an alternative to Double, Alexander or Secret, which are all in the vicinity.

Is this joint open 24 hours?

Aniki Club & Spa 4

Here is a comprehensive report of Aniki Sauna in Taipei, recently sent in by a blog reader.

I did get a chance to visit Aniki Spa & Club in Taipei one time. I'd like to echo your previous reader by saying that this place is hands down the best sauna I've ever seen. Here's some details from my experience:

Getting There

First of all, a word of advice on how to get there. Unless you want to take a taxi, the easiest way is to take the subway to Shuanglian station (2 stops north of Taipei Main Station, on the Danshui line).

Get out at Exit 1, and you'll see MinSheng East Road, a very busy street, in front of you. Turn right and follow this street for 2 very long blocks (you'll pass dozens of restaurants) until you reach LinSen North Road. Cross this street (you'll see a hotel on the corner), then turn right and walk 2 short blocks to Lane 353.

Turn left and walk maybe halfway down that lane until you see the sign for Aniki on your right. You will walk down a kind of garden pathway, then come to a wooden door on your left. Here's the only tricky part: There's no doorbell or buzzer. What you need to do is stand DIRECTLY in front of that door until a sensor opens it! Then you go down a flight of steps beyond that hidden entryway, and you'll find yourself in the lobby.

Check In

I got there on a Wednesday night starting around 5:30pm. The theme that day was called "Surprise!" so most people walked around in underwear or speedos. The entry fee was NT$500. When you check in, the hot guy at the front desk (wearing very little) will give you a bag for your shoes. This is just the first of many signs that this place is serious about cleanliness. You go down a hallway to the locker room and stash your stuff away.

The Wet Area

The facilities at Aniki are really impressive. The first room you'll notice is just beyond the locker room and it's huge. It contains not one, not two, but three hot tubs, all at different temperatures. They're all lighted with different colors for cool effect. Also in this space are a line of showers, for the exhibitionists. There's also an area of more private showers around the corner toward the back. You'll also find the steamroom (ok size, with a more private area in the back) and dry sauna (quite nice, with nature music!) here as well. There's also a bathroom in this area, and baskets to temporarily store towels, undies, etc.

Maze & Private Room Area

Beyond this room is the maze and cabin area, and again it's just gargantuan. Some rooms just have mats on the floor, while others have raised beds. Each room has a lube dispenser, though not condoms. The rooms all have sliding doors that lock (or not, as you prefer). And this is a first for me: On a bench in the back of the maze, the club provides blankets for people to take into the rooms, if they want to sleep or just snuggle with somebody. A very cute idea! If I had to guess I'd say there are a total of about 40 cabins in this space. In the far back of the maze, there's a very large, dark orgy room. In one area, there's a round mattress that could fit maybe a dozen guys comfortably. In another, there's little cots. I couldn't see very well, but it also looked like there was a small area for glory holes.

Bathrooms & Vanity Area

A doorway off the maze (before you hit the hot tub room) leads to a large bathroom stocked with all the condoms, moisturizers, hair products, mouthwash, etc. you could want. Beyond this room, you reach a small Internet lounge with 2 computers, and a small separate reading room stocked with hundreds of magazines. The locker area is just beyond this point.

Cafe & Private Massage Rooms

Going back into the hot tub room, if you exit at the opposite far end you'll see a large cafe-lounge. When you enter there's 2 large iMacs for Internet surfing, then beyond that there's a lot of comfortable seating and tables. At the end there's a counter where, at certain hours, you can order cook-to-order meals from the staff! The menu runs about 6 pages! Quite unbelievable. To the right of the counter there's also a spa where you can pay for professional massages.

TV / Movie Room

Finally, leaving the cafe area, if you continue walking straight you'll see a curtain hiding yet another large room. This room has dozens of futon-style beds set up for guys to watch TV/movies on a gigantic screen (they were playing "Sex in the City" marathons while I was there), cuddle with other guys, or just sleep. Blankets are also provided. When it gets really late they stop playing movies and most guys in there are just sleeping.

Clientele

The crowd that night was almost entirely Asian (there was only one other white guy there), vast majority locals in their 20s and 30s with slim to swimmers build, and mostly very cute (if you appreciate Asian guys). I didn't detect any prejudice whatsoever; people were very friendly and eager to chat (and play). I had so much action I wound up staying until 6am! I should warn other foreigners, though, that my experience may be atypical. Although I'm white, I also have a body type similar to most Chinese guys and I'm in my 20s, so maybe I appeared more approachable? I dunno. In any event, if you treat people respectfully and don't come on too strong, you'll probably have a good time.

Apparently, another new gay sauna here in Very Rich Megacity.  However, when FuelMix clicks the above website, he gets a warning from his Norton Anti-virus software that this site is unsafe.  Great introduction.

Is anyone else getting the same warning?  If anyone's been to this place send over a review.  It will be a while before FuelMix gets over to this place.
